Summer racing
Once summer arrives, the absence of snow isn't a good enough reason for
racing die-hards to stow their snowmobiles: grass, asphalt and lakes will do
the job!
Drag races
Drag races are held on a straight track of either grass or asphalt. Like a
winter drag race, they call on the ability of the snowmobile to make a fast
start, as the race lasts mere seconds. The pilot's team must provide parts
for repairing the snowmobile to compensate for heavy wear by grass, soil and
asphalt.
The most popular asphalt drag race is held at Hay Days in Minneapolis,
Minnesota.
Watercross races
Four kinds of watercross races take place on lakes: drag races, distance
races, figure eights, and ovals. Snowmobiles are modified for these
competitions with a sealed gas tank, a very powerful motor and special
suspension.
Rapid ignition and precise handling of the snowmobile are
required to be a champion watercross racer.
The definitive watercross race is the Wisconsin Snowmobile Watercross &
Summerfest in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
